B.A.M.S MEDALS
Most of us are affected by the media and has a desire to be thin. From magazines to television, to movies, we are told that these stick thin so called ‘models’ are what we “should” look like. We are influenced by the media to agree that to be beautiful, we have to be skinny, size 0 and eating is a sin. Though the model in the advert is skinny, a size 0, it doesn’t mean he or she is beautiful. The shape and size of the model is unrealistic and too skeletal to be healthy. The society obsesses with the body image and forgets the bigger picture of what really matters is in fact, on the inside.
The design of my medal is focused mainly on the periphery of the medal. The figures are not taking part in the greater picture as the medal has no faces, and is “shallow”. The figures, one of which represents a “beautiful” model, and one of which represents Giacometti’s sculptures, are both placed on the peripherals instead. The medal points out that though they are skinny and have the perfect ‘model’ figure, they are still not the center of everything.
